AS SALAAM ALAIKUM WABARAKAT
Marketing is  defined as the process  by which companies and institutions create value
for customers and build strong customer relationships in order to capture value from customers in return.
Marketing is the management process  that  is responsible for identifying, anticipating and satisfying cosumers' requirements profitably.

The societal marketing concert holds that the organisation's task is to determine the needs, wants, and interests of target markets and to deliver the desired satisfactions more effectively and efficiently than competitors, in a way that preserves or enhances the consumer's and the society's well-being .(Kotler,Philip, Marketing management:analysis, planning, implementation and control 8th ed.Prentice-Hall,1994)
Now, the questions are, can we market Islam?
can  we incorporate the concepts of marketing to islamic preaching?
can we promote Islam in our own marketing ways?
can we try to sell Islam?
thank you.

w.a.s.w.r.w.b

i think the Prophet himself was marketing Islam by sending letters to kings and emperors inviting them to Islam. He travelled to numerous towns to preach Islam to them. doing dawa is actually marketing Islam.

i guess it becms a pblm whn it is takn to a commercial level, i.e. when ppl form Islamic groups & not only market Islam, but dier groups/organizatns. whn these groups see having more members as meaning having more funds (as the churches do nowadays), then there'll b a pblm.

but i believe we haven't got ther yet.

Now, the questions are, can we market Islam?

yes

can  we incorporate the concepts of marketing to islamic preaching?

you mean identifying a need and formulating a product to fulfill that need, yes.

can we promote Islam in our own marketing ways?

this is where there might be a problem. "our own marketing ways" may be harmful to the cause of spreading Islam instead of helping it. it is therefore necessary to stick to the basic rules of dawa in doing this.

i think one of the easiest ways of marketing Islam is through our behaviour, and the examples we set for society. if we are able to make people see the beauty of Islam through this, i believe we can win them over.

Marketing Islam ?
It is like the ripples in the water cuased by a Pebble when it is thrown in to water (see above quote).
You are the pebble ... the community is the pebbel ...
As the ripple spreads it will reach local and far off lands.

Faith is not something you can sell but only invite people to discover/explore/accept.

Islam is unlike any other religion ... it is not for the weak.

Islam is a way off life .. 24 hours your actions/intentions are recorded and graded.

...

In any case to market Islam I suggest you identify some individual, global or local issues/problems and talk of solutions with Muslims and non-muslims using the Quran and Hadith .. 'What would the Prophet do"?
I find that to much we are not doing enough to address problems faced by all or we are being led down the garden path with ideas that actually do not address the problems.
For example we see a lot of PEACE banners in marches or in the news (by Muslims and non muslims) - throw away the word Peace I say use more action words like JUSTICE - EQUALITY that addresses the issues (peace comes after all the other words are implemented) .. notice in the news the words Justice, Equlaity, Law and Order are not used why ? If they are they will need to follow it also ..

Thank you.

nicely said!
